“My name is John Riga and my story begins as so many others do. I was sick and tired of being sick and tired. I had no energy because my blood sugar was out of control. My blood pressure was being somewhat controlled by the use of 2 medications, I needed cholesterol pills and I was well on my way to type 2 diabetes medication. All I wanted to do was sleep and I got every cold and flu that came within 100 miles of me.
I was ready for a change but I did not know what that was. I had tried almost every diet that was out there. I tried so many that I was beginning to believe that there was no hope. There were so many snake oil products that claimed to be the answer and yet when I tried them there was some success but eventually it just rebounded. I knew why they only used four letters to spell diet. I definitely put the word in the same group as the other 4 letter words.
Being overweight was so depressing. Anyone who has a lot of weight to lose knows what I am talking about. The looks, the judgment, the “that person has no willpower” comments that cut like a knife into my self-worth. If you have a problem with any other drug, people cut you some slack. If you are addicted to sugar, probably the most pervasive and addictive substance on the planet, they look at you like you are less of a person.
People don’t need drugs to live but we all need to eat. The only question is what we perceive to be “healthy choices”. I needed a solution. My problem was complicated because any solution also had to be portable and adaptable for multiple countries as my work requires me to travel, sometimes at short notice, to any place on the globe. Any diet that requires a lot of preparation or measuring was out of the question. I was never at home long enough.
I visited my friend Sara over Easter last year and she introduced me to Matol. I liked the idea of the packets that just needed water, generally something I can get at any airport and that definitely appealed to me. The other thing about the Matol treatment was that it made sense from an engineering point of view. I would retain and build up the engine that would continue to burn the fat, my muscles. This made sense!
I was sold on the plan that day by the time I got home and, with the support of my wife, I called Sara to sign up that night. I started on April 17th 2007 and I have never looked back. I followed Matol “Hard Core” and proceeded to lose over one hundred and fifty pounds (165lbs +++). I have to say 'over 165 lbs +++' because the scale I had only went up to 400 lbs and it took almost three weeks until it gave me a reading other than ERR. The first week it did read it said I had dropped 23 lbs. By my best estimate I was close to 450 lbs ± 10 lbs, so that would give an overall total of 215 lbs ± 10 lbs so far.
Now, I have been transformed from wearing size 5XL 20" shirts and 64" pants, that by the way were getting too tight for me to wear, to large shirts (16-16 ½ ) and less than 38" pants. The transformation is almost complete.
I have less than 20 lbs to go and then I will be at my goal of around 210 to 220 lbs. That weight, for my frame should be just fine. I may go for lower but that will depend on how I am feeling.
I have had self-induced setbacks but literally 3 days back on track and the setback is gone because the muscle is there. Matol is the only treatment that I have found that actually delivers real weight loss and definitely improved health. I am off all medications
and my sugars are absolutely normal and my blood work came back picture postcard perfect! The Matol treatment has changed my life!”

“I lost 50 pounds in 4 months! I started the Matol treatment on January 2, 2008.  I had gone to a seminar in the area in December to find out what Matol was all about. I knew of a couple of people that had done the Matol Diet treatment and had heard it was successful and I just knew that I wanted to try something.  With a busy family life and children age, five and seven I needed something that was not time consuming.  I saw immediate results!  I went each week to see my coach Maureen Sanford to be weighed and I kept track of the inches I was losing which amounted to 33 inches!  On top of the “regular” things in life, I have had Type 1 diabetes for 24 years.  I was very well controlled and have always tested my sugar 4 times a day. 
When I started with the Matol Diet treatment, I wasn’t sure what to expect with my sugars.  I take two kinds of insulin – one fast acting and one long acting.  I adjust my own dosage (of fast acting) based on the amount of carbohydrates I ate at a meal.  The fast acting went from about 80 units per day to zero!  I never imagined that the amount of carbs I was consuming had that much affect on my sugars so this was a real eye-opener.  My long acting was almost cut in half after 3 weeks.  So I went from taking six needles (4 fast acting and 2 long acting) to just the two long acting.  Who could ever complain about not getting poked so much?  I am also off my blood pressure medication and feel great!  I am at the end of Stage 3 and am starting to reintroduce healthy carbs.  I will have to resume taking the fast acting insulin but at very much reduce dosage.  I want to thank Maureen for her constant support and the whole Matol team for making m life better.  I’ll look forward to a healthier and happier me!”

 

"After 5 months of illness and not being able to participate in my aerobic classes to the fullest I had to look for some other form of help. I truly thought turning 46 was going to be downhill from here on in. I then met Wendy King and Matol. I was skeptical as I thought it was just another weight fad movement passing through. “I personally have lost 62 lbs and 34 inches using the Matol Diet in just 5 months.  Now please understand I am not finished. I still have 50 lbs to go, which will be completed by the end of April. One of the most fascinating things about this program is that you can guarantee your weight loss goal if you simply follow the food and supplement program, fill out your daily menu planner, weigh yourself only once a week and most importantly stay plugged into your coach and attend the support calls offered my Matol.
To me this is still unbelievable. I have been fat for more than 30 years. I would start a diet at least 3 times a year and I would lose about 15/20 pounds and then diet failure! I was very reluctant in trying again because I really did not want any more failures in my life. As an emotional eater, of course failing just sent me to the cookie jar yet one more time. I no longer require medication for my Diabetes!!!  And she did not even request to see me again in 3 months for follow-up testing. Some of us like to refer to this program as the pancreas treatment and it is so appropriate. As you allow the pancreas to rest and feed the body what it needs, the weight just melts away.
I started Phase 2 of my Obesity recovery Jan 1/08.  Because the first Phase of my project succeeded I know that final success is guaranteed.  I have no idea how I will look, but I definitely know that I can only improve my health even more.  I feel fantastic and really enjoy how I feel with the process.”

"Where do I begin? Birth…from the time I was born weight has always been a battle. I contribute some of my weight issues to how I was raised. "I was very skeptical when I first heard about Matol. I was having a hysterectomy, so I wasn't about to try and start a diet when I was going to be in the hospital and had friends bringing me meals.  I LOST -- BIG TIME!!! 24 pounds in the first month, and loads of inches. 57lbs off in 13 weeks!! I went from a size 15 down to a size 7 !!! I haven't been a size 7 since I was 15!!! I am actually wearing my 14yr old daughter's jeans right now!!!

"I am just shy of 37 years old. I have two beautiful daughters, Uma, 10, and Bella, 3. I gained an unhealthy amount of weight during my first pregnancy and never really lost it since then.
Two years ago, as my weight approached 200 pounds, I found out I had gall bladder disease. The infection was so bad and I was so sick, I had to have it removed. I vowed to lose weight and get healthy. I was already in a size 18 pushing 20 and I absolutely refused to get on a scale.
In January of this year, I realized I had very high blood pressure, around 170/92. I needed corrective surgery on bunions in my feet. I was in so much pain when I woke up in the mornings. I hobbled around my house, was tired all the time and took naps with my little one each day. My blood pressure was not coming down and, secretly, I began to get scared.

Two months went by before I went to my first Matol meeting. The biology, the science behind the program and how it affects our physiology is what interested me the most. Two meetings later, I committed to the Matol Diet. Lisa forced me to get on a scale and I saw I now weighed 222 lbs. My goal was to lose 50 lbs and I started the program on May 29th. "I decided to tell the world about the most amazing diet out there! I’ve tried countless numbers of diets in my lifetime, and none can compare to this one. I have to be honest, it took almost a full year of convincing from my good friend Debbie, before I would even give it a try.
My life had hit an all time low, starting with my husband getting sick, numerous family problems and to top it off my precious nephew drowning. I of course turned to my one and only crutch in times of depression and need…Food, Food and more Food. "I am a healthcare administrator and work in a very busy and progressive OB/GYN practice. I see women in all stages of life every day and am acutely aware of the obesity epidemic we are experiencing in our country as well as the statistics of heart disease and diabetes in women. I know the importance of exercise and nutrition yet I had been struggling with my own weight problems for several years. Weight was not a problem for me until I reached my late 30’s and then it seemed no matter what I did my weight continued to climb and my clothing sizes kept going up as well! Our practice had been looking for a weight loss program that we would feel comfortable offering to our patients; one that didn’t require pills or shots and that took a much more natural approach. In December we began looking at the Matol program but wanted to see if it would really work before introducing it to our patients so I volunteered to be the “guinea pig”.  I began the program the beginning of January albeit with a great deal of skepticism. I really didn’t believe this “diet” was going to be any different than anything else I had done but I had to give it a try.  My husband even agreed to follow the program with me so I wasn’t doing this all alone.  At the end of the first week I went to weigh myself and I remember thinking that I wouldn’t see any change on the scale. You can imagine my surprise when I saw that I had lost 71/2 pounds!!!   From that point it became my weekly ritual to see how much I had lost. After the first three weeks I was truly beginning to see the difference in how my clothes fit and how I felt. People were starting to notice and wanted to know what I was doing and of course I was a huge advocate of offering this plan to our patients. I never felt that the program was hard to follow and I found most of the food to be quite good.  I found myself paying attention to those “urges” I would get to grab a snack in the evening and discovered that almost all of it was purely out of habit, not necessity. "I am 73 years old and after our four children grew up and followed their own interests my eating habits hadn't changed from the more energetic previous years and the pounds crept on each year with less output of energy. Each spring and fall season I needed to buy larger clothes.
In the past 30 years I have tried at least 10 diets or weight loss plans. Some of these plans were good and along with an exercise program I could always lose a few pounds in the first few months but then slow down and I would have trouble adhering to the food plan and the pounds would always creep back on making me heavier than when I started. I found myself in envy of the slimmer people. My knees & back ached and my arches had fallen in my feet, making walking painful and therefore I exercised less. As a result, I had many visits to a podiatrist to get my arches back into shape with orthotics.
I began to 'people watch' and noticed people my own age and older walking on the street. Most were not walking but waddling down the street from excess weight and foot problems. Hip and knee replacements are very common procedures in this area. I decided I didn't want to be this weight any longer and add more pounds and stress to my body each year and age myself prematurely.
So which weight loss plan would I try next? Along came the Matol Diet which I decided to try for a few months. My goal was to lose 55 lbs. I started in Jan. 2005. The plan was new and because of the way the Plan was printed I unknowingly started on the 'alternate plan' instead of the accelerated plan, and I did think it was a lot of food to fit into a day. I learned at the Matol Diet Clinic in Niagara Falls that the 'alternate plan' is a slower way of losing weight. At the time I thought I was doing well losing an average of 1 lb. every week but I realize now that I should have lost the weight much faster. I had 50 lbs. off a week before Christmas but gained backed 5 lbs. because of the many varieties of food which surrounded me at holiday time, many of which had sugar content. The next day I felt ill from the sugary foods. Christmas slowed down my weight loss dramatically and after Christmas I found it difficult adhering to the plan and YES, I still had sugar cravings. Another learning experience.
To date I have lost 49 lbs. I feel good on the Matol Diet and faithfully take the recommended supplements: the liquid Matol/Km, EFA/Omega 3-6-9 caps, MegaVitamins and Calcium & Magnesium which I know I NEED to keep well and I have lots of energy. I think the most difficult part of the Matol Diet is staying focused on the end results. It is an exercise of control of mind over body. I do not have group support so I need and use the Matol Diet Support calls to help me stay focused. If I miss the call I listen to the info line several times a week.
I love the foods on the Matol Diet and the feeling of satisfaction as long as I don't consume foods with sugar content. I also like the way my body is coming back into a more feminine shape. My back, knees and feet don't ache anymore and I can accomplish much more in a day with energy left over. I enjoy going shopping for clothes now. My tops were extra large, now I can wear a small. My slacks were size 20, now I can wear a size 12. Amazing. I learned I can lose weight easily on the Matol Diet and I also learned to be cautious because my sugar cravings are right at the surface ready to pounce on me if I consume foods with sugar content, even fresh fruits. I have learned to go to bed no later than 10 PM or I get food cravings. I am anxious to lose the remaining 6 lbs. so that I can proceed with the maintenance plan and test out the performance of my pancreas, but I think I'll always have to beware of sugary foods.
My advice is to stay focused on your goal, don't listen to negative responses from friends and family or try to use substitutes on the plan. Stay on the Matol Diet and use the Matol foods when needed until your weight is lost. My regret is that I didn't start on the accelerated Plan, then my excess weight would be long gone."

 

"I have had a lifetime of weight battles.  I am a very short woman - 5'1"- and have always carried weight in my lower body. In fact, I was termed "thunder thighs" on many occasions! I have always been embarrassed about my legs. Over the years my belly also became a source of trouble and although I have been active most of my life, my weight has fluctuated as much as 62 pounds.
I have tried every diet under the sun. In the past, I have lived my life on a constant "diet."  Nothing I did really worked in the long-term. Oh, I have lost weight but, it always came back! My story, this time, started with the unexpected death of my darling and "healthy" father.  On August 22nd, 2004, while on the golf course, he died of a cardiac arrest.  It threw our family for a loop and from that day to January 2005, I managed to put on 30 pounds!! I went from a size 8 to a 12 in 4 months.
As a massage therapist, and as the sister of a chiropractor, I have always had a sensible eating program in my life. I realized that I may be in trouble, too, as my body fat was registering at a staggering 37.8% and my weight at 160! I hired a personal training facility and started eating 5 small meals a day in the attempt to fix this problem. After 7 months of this routine, I was 162!  And my body fat was down by a measly 2%! Talk about frustrated! Finally, my acupuncture physician suggested I go to a "meeting" about some protein in a packet he referred to as "astronaut food."  Normally, I would not entertain the idea of packaged food but I was desperate to get to the bottom of my weight and fat woes so I went. And, on November 29th I started on the Matol Diet program.  What a change my life took that day. In more ways than one.  I have lost 29 pounds to date. I am wearing size 4's and 6's! My body composition has changed most dramatically. My thighs, once measuring 27 inches each, are down to 21 inches! That's 6 inches from each thigh!  No more thunder thighs. I may actually wear shorts this season! My waist went from 31.5 inches to 25.5 (6 inches melted off). And my hips, from 42 inches to 36 (6 inches). Not only that, my energy level is through the roof! I feel like I am in my 20's again. People say my skin and my eyes are "glowing!"  Most importantly, I lost almost 12% body fat in 4 months - I am down to 23.8% from 35.8%. I don't skip meals anymore, and I save money stopping for lunch! I feel so empowered about the future of my body, and I feel like I have a tool in my tool box to keep me on track. This is permanent. "I am 70 years old and I play tennis and golf 3 times per week. In order to understand why I went on the diet, you have to know my history.

“I must tell you that I am sooooo excited about the Matol Diet! I have been looking for a healthy weight loss program for some time.
